Leapx Design, a product design firm, was given the opportunity to create the next generation of home exercise equipment that would motivate people to stay fit at home. They created a smart gaming bike that combined gaming and smart technology to add depth to the home exercise experience.
The smart gaming bike had several unique features, including gaming controls with lockable steering, a digitally switchable hub, and a fan that was built into the display and linked gaming achievements to physical rewards.
Leapx Design chose to highlight both the frame and the flywheel enclosure in a dynamic silhouette to maintain a high-performance feeling. They also hid the welded shoulder joint that visually dominates the design of many exercise bikes, making an iconic element of the flywheel.
To make gaming more immersive and tactile, sensors were proposed in the handlebar to track changes in the rider’s position, unlocking another level of interaction as the game character closely mimics small movements from players.
