Brot, which means sprout in Catalan, it’s a lamp and a germinator (no, it’s nothing related to germs) ;). A germinator it’s a device for growing sprouts and Brot it’s a new way to understand food and furniture. Brot has a double function, it’s a lamp, which creates a warm and cosy environment, and a way to grow your own food in a different way (and doing delicious salads!)
Brot is formed by two elements made from terracota: the vessel, which holds the stainless steel tray with seeds, and the screen, to redirect light to the sprout and the room. The center of the vessel also has a circular opening, which allows the light pass through and creates a defined light spot bellow it.
The light, reflecting off the terracotta ceramic surface, creates a warm atmosphere and helps the sprouts to grow more colorful. This combination of elements creates a dialog between food and furniture. The design also responds to society ́s growing concern in following a healthier diet, making it fast and easy to
germinate seeds.
How to use:
1- Put the seeds soaking on the vessel piece (for example peas needs 12h soaking). Make sure the seeds are completely covered!
2- After the specified time put the seeds on the stainless steel tray and moisten the seeds 2-3 times a day.
3- After 4-6 days the sprouts will be ready to be eaten!
